The literature dealing with the history and development of dentistry reveals that records of dental treatment and replacement date back to ancient times. As civilization progressed, there developed a very marked difference between the diets of wealthy and the poor in all countries and hence in their dental health. The dental health management and dental education has gradually evolved itself into a sophisticated science especially in the last 100 years.

In Pakistan, Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Medical Commission are playing a pivotal role to develop curriculum for undergraduate dental education.
